Blackjack Basic Strategy

Blackjack is a casino game with a high entertainment value that also offers the player considerable opportunities to win. However, Blackjack is a game of chance where the casino always has a house advantage. If you play Blackjack without any strategy, the house advantage is around 5%.

This means that in the long run you will win 95% of the games and lose 5%, so you will always lose money in the long run. In order to counteract this advantage of the casino, knowledge of the Blackjack Rules alone is not enough, but a strategy is also needed. The goal of a Blackjack strategy should therefore be to reduce the house advantage in your favor.

Use the Math and Posabillities in Blackjack

With the simple Blackjack basic strategy, the house advantage can be reduced to around 3%. This strategy, as well as all advanced strategies, is based on simple mathematics and probabilities. But don't worry, with this strategy you don't have to sit at the blackjack table with your calculator. All you need to know about this strategy are the different card values of your hand and how to proceed with them. Below is a list of the different card values and how they should be handled.

Card value 17 to 21

If your two cards have a value between 17 and 21, you do not draw another card, regardless of which card the dealer has face up. The probability here is in your favor and you will win the majority of games.

Card value 12 to 16

If the value of your cards is between 12 and 16, you will not hit a card if the dealer's card has a value between 2 and 6. Unless one of your cards is an ace that counts 1 or 11.

Card value 9 to 11

If your cards have a value between 9 and 11, and the dealer has a value between 2 and 6, you should double your bet.

Card value twice 8 (8+8)

If your cards are two 8 + 8, you should split your hand. If the dealer's card value is higher than 8, you should not split, but hit a card.

Card value twice 9 (9+9)

If the dealer's face up card shows a value between 2 and 6, you should split your hand. If the dealer's card value is higher than 6, you do not hit another card.

Card value twice 10 (10+10)

With two tens, you're holding a very strong hand that you should never split. It doesn't matter what the dealer's card value is.

Two Aces Card Value

You should only split two aces if the Dealer's card value is 5 or less. If the dealer's card value is higher, you do not split. Since the value of your cards is now 2 or 12, you should hit one card.

When the dealer shows an Ace with his card face up, you can insure your hand with half of your bet against the dealer's possible Blackjack. If the dealer actually hits the Blackjack, you will get your bet back and finish the game without any loss. What looks like a good move at first is in fact a losing deal. Statistically you will only increase your losses with the increased use of the insurance. Consequently, you should never use the possibility of insurance.

Finally, we would like to point out once again that this is only a basic strategy. If you use this strategy, you reduce the house advantage of the casino by 2%, but this means that the casino still has a 3% advantage. So if you win with this strategy, you shouldn't challenge your luck and quit the game in time with your winnings.
